Personal Musings and an Interactive Writing Career

I am interested in interactive writing in the future. I think the skills we have learned about blogging, remixing projects, and website creation will benefit my future career by helping me reach out to more connections and clientele. Although I plan on entering the legal field, I feel the ability to reach out to future clientele through interactive media will be key in building my practice. The future of law is no longer pulling out the phone book and looking up the nearest firm to take care of your legal needs, but those firms and attorneys that are easy to connect to through social media and other media platforms. A client is more likely to connect with you if they have viewed an informative website about you and watched a video to reassure them that their legal needs will be taken care of. I hope to develop my writing skills so I can better reach out to future clientele.

Scholarly article #4

I thought this article was great because It is interesting to learn the stories of others. When we learn from the stories of others we gain a greater understanding. Narrative is a excellent way for a writer to connect to their readers.. Each person has their own perception of the world, and narrative writing  gives students and teachers alike the opportunity to experience how people relate to one another. The writing landscape has trended to that of the narrative form. Most people have the tendency to value a story over factual evidence, and it seems that the tendency is becoming more and more prevalent in writing. I  agree with the author when she says "The insights and respect that can accrue from this work of individual recognition and respect, I am certain, can help us make them better scholars and ourselves better teachers."  Narratives are a tool that can be used to connect with the audience, thus creating a greater experience for writers and readers alike.

Article 5

A technical communicator in our time is very important. This article is all about that noise. The article discusses the importance of rhetoric and how we as technical writers need to defend the rhetoric used. As we have learned, rhetoric is critical to our culture and language. The article also expresses the importance of the audience, purpose, and context. Focusing on these aspects will help as you write with for interactive media. We also learned that sometimes people use new media and multimedia interchangeably. This creates a great challenge for a technical communicator and requires them to be flexible in their writing.

Scholarly Article #3

This article was interesting. It presented some interesting points of how moving from primary written representation to representation through images. I see both sides of the argument, and I think we just have to trust society to make both a priority. Too often society feels it has to be one way or the other when in reality the best result comes from integrating both. The argument that speech and writing tell the world and imagery shows the world was a good point made by her, thus again why I do not feel we will ever have a loss of one or the other. Some things can not be told and some things can not be shown, there is a need for both.

Scholarly Article #2

I thought this article was really good. It was interesting to see it from an "older" perspective. There was some interesting facts about how the internet began, I have always had the internet in my life so it does not seem like a new thing to me.  There are still those select few of the "older" generation that do not appreciate the internet.  Some people say that the internet takes away from interpersonal communication, but I think that there are more benefits than downsides to the internet. Overall, the internet has made us more interactive, even though there are some social downsides that we can overcome.

Scholarly article #1

I am a little late to this party, but the chapter was very interesting. The evolution of writing is quite amazing, especially in the English language. Technology has rabidly increased the evolution of writing. With texting, emailing and social media, writing has become preferred over actual talking in some instances. Many people will not answer phone calls but they will answer to a text. Many employers prefer email than an actual meeting, and many people will wish their friends happy birthday on social media, but wont go to the birthday party being held later that evening, Writing is communication, and if we want to succeed in this world, we better be excellent writers.

Reflection Questions!

I first learned to use a computer in the mid-90's when I was 5-6 years old when my parents purchased our first family computer. The internet was introduced to me about the same time, though we were not allowed to use it because our provider charged us for every minute we were on the internet, and we couldn't use our family phone while we were on the internet. I began social networking in the the 2000's with MSN messenger, I remember all of my friends would get together and chat with each other.

Getting supplementary support today is essential for all of my classes, I never use the library because the information online is quick to access and up to date in most cases. The disadvantages to this is that there is a lot of false information on the internet because it is so accessible. I think you maximize the advantages by using credible sources from recognized institutions/
