Scholarly Article #3
This article was interesting. It presented some interesting points of how moving from primary written representation to representation through images. I see both sides of the argument, and I think we just have to trust society to make both a priority. Too often society feels it has to be one way or the other when in reality the best result comes from integrating both. The argument that speech and writing tell the world and imagery shows the world was a good point made by her, thus again why I do not feel we will ever have a loss of one or the other. Some things can not be told and some things can not be shown, there is a need for both.

I agree with you Trev! I always feel like the truth lies somewhere in the middle, and I believe that using images and words together can form the most potent combination. I too see both sides of the argument, and I don't see either images or writing going anywhere any time soon.
ReplyDeleteJames I completely agree that Trevor is on point with his response. As stated on your blog, I completely agree with the middle stance. I think that it is interesting that us technical writers see similar value in written information.
DeleteHi Trevor,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog -- thanks for posting! Your point about writing vs. images is really spot on because it highlights Gunther Kress' 1st kind of revolution or the paradigm shift from centrality of writing to images. As writers for interactive media, I guess we should not only think of ourselves as textual writers, but also as designers/visual communicators when producing informational sites.
